Psychological First Aid: Applying the Trauma Institute Counselling Skills and Techniques™
Using the Trauma Centre of Australia Model and the Psychological First Aid, students explain how the model and techniques would be used or applied on a large AND a small scale.
Learning Outcomes:
  • Apply the Trauma Institute Counselling Skills and Techniques™
  • Understand the role of Frontline Responders and when to escalate to professional counselling for interventions
  • Understand the 8-point category process of Psychological First Aid (PFA)
  • Apply theory to practical examples of major disasters and minor critical incident responses.
  • Understand the need to react to Critical Response Incidents (CRI) using PFA immediately
  • Apply a systematic PFA approach to managing the impact of high stress on individuals.
  • Learn how to apply PFA to a trauma or critical incident disaster
Entry Requirements:
The ideal applicants must normally hold an approved degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution. However, under certain circumstances and subject to specific conditions such as work experience, the Trauma Institute may admit others who can show evidence of suitability for candidature.
Intake dates:
Every 1st Monday of each month.
Please note, there is no new intake course during December and January.
*You must enrol in a term within a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the start of the elected term date. Late and cancellation fees may occur if failure to do so. Your application/enrolment approval can take up to 4 weeks.
